If you are tracking the latest California primary results, major shifts just happened following overnight ballot counting. Here is everything you need to know about the Assembly and L.A. Mayoral races heading into the general election:
CA Assembly District 7: Hoover Holds the Lead
Republican incumbent Josh Hoover is currently leading with roughly 54% of the vote as of Wednesday afternoon.
He is comfortably ahead of Democratic challenger Amy Slavensky, who currently sits at about 44%.
Both candidates are fully expected to advance to the general election this November. Hoover, who famously flipped the seat to Republican control in 2022, is known for his “Point of Order” podcast, while Slavensky is a retired school superintendent who recently returned to interim work.
L.A. Mayoral Race: Historic Runoff Looming
In a massive development, incumbent Democrat Karen Bass failed to reach the 51% threshold needed for an outright win, currently holding 35% with 62% of the ballots counted.
Independent candidate Spencer Pratt is surging in second place with approximately 29.9%, while Democrat Nithya Raman trails at 22.8%.
This sets the stage for a highly anticipated November runoff between Bass and Pratt. Pratt’s strong showing is largely being fueled by voter frustration over public safety and city governance, a notable shift given no Republican has won the mayoral race in over three decades.
Election Complaint Shakes Up L.A.
The political drama does not stop at the polls! Pratt officially filed a formal legal complaint against Mayor Bass, accusing her of illegal electioneering.
California law strictly prohibits campaigning within 100 feet of a ballot drop box. Pratt claims a recent Bass campaign video clearly violates this rule, stating that she showed a disregard for election laws.
A spokesperson for Bass strongly rejected the claims, stating the video segments complied with the law because they were either filmed over 200 feet away or did not feature any campaign signs when closer. Pratt’s legal team has officially requested a formal state investigation.
State officials are warning that it could take weeks to finalize the statewide results for these closely watched races.
